Thomas I. Matyas

Tom’s practice is focused on real estate litigation. His in-depth knowledge of his clients and the real estate industry, paired with his team approach with clients, emphasizing communication, has resulted in successful strategies for his clients to cost-effectively attain their business goals. With a diverse client base, Tom has significant experience litigating complex claims related to real estate in state and federal trial and appellate courts in Illinois and in numerous other states. These matters seek various equitable and/or monetary relief including injunctions, specific performance, money judgments, declaratory judgments, evictions, quieting title, foreclosures, reformation, and rescission. Tom has litigated matters with respect to the full line of real estate products, including retail, office, apartment buildings, industrial, unimproved, railroad, hospitality, retirement, and health care properties.

Tom's wife of 38 years, Harlene, is also a trial lawyer and they have three sons, three grandchildren, an English mastiff named George Harrison, and two cats by the names of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Outside of family, friends and law, Tom's passions are cigars, bicycling, and painting furniture.
