Jonathan S. Goodman

Jonathan Goodman is a partner in the Litigation Department of Wildman Harrold. Jonathan represents clients in state and federal courts throughout the country, including appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. His clients include both large and mid-size entities, ranging from manufacturers to insurers, real estate developers, railroads, law firms, trade organizations, commercial property owners, chemical companies, and general contractors and title companies, as well as individuals including attorneys, corporate officers, and beneficiaries in probate matters. Jonathan acts for clients in a variety of complex commercial and tort matters, including large-scale breach of contract claims, commercial and market-place liability class actions, commercial lease disputes, product and premises liability claims, RICO suits, construction lawsuits, professional malpractice actions, trade secrets, and common law and consumer fraud suits. He is skilled in all aspects of the litigation process, from assisting clients in devising business strategies to minimize litigation, to aggressive representation once litigation has come to fruition—and ultimately, obtaining positive results for the client, whether by negotiating a settlement or obtaining judgment.

Representative Experience:

  • Successfully represented a multibillion dollar insurance company in a multimillion dollar class action lawsuit alleging consumer fraud and RICO violations; obtained a no-liability summary judgment, affirmed by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals
  • Represented an international manufacturer in a dispute relating to the purchase of a foreign manufacturing facility; obtained a multimillion dollar settlement for the client exceeding the purchase price of the facility
  • Obtained a no-liability summary judgment for the chief financial officer of a subprime auto lender in a multimillion dollar securities fraud lawsuit consolidated before the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation
  • Obtained defense judgments for a trade organization in a series of related class actions brought in state and federal courts throughout the United States alleging improper advertising practices market liability
  • Successfully litigated numerous real estate and construction disputes, including a favorable settlement on behalf of a Chicago-based hotel owner/operator in a property damage dispute arising from the construction of an abutting skyscraper owned and operated by an international hotel chain; a favorable settlement on behalf of a relocation management company in a dispute arising from the alleged sale of property to two different buyers; and a favorable settlement on behalf of a railroad company arising from the defendants’ destruction of protective cells surrounding the railroad’s bridge in the Illinois River
  • Currently represents the manufacturer of fire retardants in various products liability claims brought throughout the United States
  • Currently represents international insurers in complex commercial disputes, including a multimillion dollar claim against a multinational conglomerate for an unpaid premium, deductible reimbursement, audit premium and other expenses; and a favorable settlement on behalf of the international insurer in a multimillion dollar lawsuit brought by a competitor relating to the transition of a specific line of insurance products
  • Obtained a defense judgment on behalf of a client alleged to have misappropriated several hundred thousand dollars from a probate estate
  • Obtained a verdict for a computer network maintenance and installation company in a lawsuit brought against a former employee who started a competing business in violation of non-compete/non-solicitation restrictive covenants
