Matthew M. Garrett
Matthew Garrett is a partner in Wildman Harrold’s Litigation Department. He represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial, toxic tort, and product liability matters. Matt’s commercial practice includes litigating breach of contract and business tort claims including misappropriation of trade secrets, securities fraud, and insurance coverage disputes. In addition, Matt’s product liability practice includes the representation of a wide range of manufacturing defendants in personal injury and wrongful death cases. He also has extensive experience representing both product manufacturers and premises owners in asbestos-related matters throughout the United States. Matt serves on the Board of Advisors to the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Veterans’ Rights Project and maintains an active pro bono practice focusing on helping veterans obtain benefits to which they are entitled.Representative Experience:
- Currently a member of national coordinating counsel team defending thousands of asbestos cases pending in state and federal courts throughout the United States on behalf of UK-based global automation, controls, and process company
- Obtained summary judgment in favor of manufacturer of surgically implanted medical device and successfully defended appeal of summary judgment order
- Successfully defended post-trial appeal of jury verdict finding in favor of commercial landlord on claims arising from breach of lease agreement
- Assisted in representing the court-appointed liquidator in a complex securities and business tort litigation arising from the collapse of an international hedge fund and prosecuted the liquidator’s claims against former managers and professionals
- Defended manufacturer of industrial water tube boilers against complex claims including trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation. The case was amicably resolved after an eight-day jury trial.
