John Arado is a partner in the Intellectual Property department of Wildman Harrold. A skilled trademark and copyright lawyer, John counsels clients in all aspects of trademark law, including clearance and registration, licensing agreements and quality control, claims of infringement, dilution and unfair competition, prosecution of trademark applications and inter partes proceedings in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and litigation in federal courts. He is also called upon to conduct due diligence reviews for clients considering mergers or acquisitions in order to identify all intellectual property and any associated risks or issues. John represents clients engaged in publishing, real estate, entertainment, and specialty food retailing; he also represents a large regional agricultural cooperative. John also serves as an arbitrator in intellectual property and commercial cases through the American Arbitration Association.

Representative Experience:

  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of defendant, a Scots medical technology company alleged to have breached a technology license and other intellectual property agreements, in the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Illinois.
  • Conducted an extensive review of all commercial communications between a large company based in Illinois and all of its customers and public audiences to ensure that the client was in compliance with its own contracts and with various laws throughout the US and Canada. Developed reports that analyzed claims and disclosures on all of the client’s websites and promotions, and generally raised any compliance issues.
  • Represented a private equity firm in conducting intellectual property due diligence reviews for several acquisition and financing transactions.
  • Represented owners of a copyrighted video franchise in negotiating an option agreement for production of a film by a major studio.
  • Acted as sole arbitrator in a dispute between a large manufacturer and its outside logistics provider involving claims of breach of contract, misrepresentation and fraud, and requiring more than forty hearing days.
  • Acted as sole arbitrator in breach of contract and trade secret dispute between a vehicle manufacturer and one of its suppliers.
